LADIES vs THE WORLD CUP by Faith Nte

The World Cup in Brazil has being quite a high for me since it started , even though the Opening Ceremony was nothing to be excited about , the matches on the other hand , have been SHE-MAZING and quite the thrill, from the Super man header of Van Persie to the tactical techniques of Tom Cahill, the World Cup has being everything , but boring, unfortunately that is from my own point of view and the view of a few of the feminine gender..SO WHAT'S A BABE TO DO?

LADIES!!!!! if you are not like me, that is, FOOTBALL CRAZY, you may not understand why your boyfriend , husband or male best friend, does not give you the time of day. My mum is my angel and i do not even give her, the time of day during a Manchester United match , let alone the World-Cup..so instead of fussing around and behaving like a NAG , why not use this moment to have your ME TIME . Relationships can be a drag sometimes especially when you have being with on person for a while , if you are not careful , you end up being crutch to each other or worse a suffocating pillow, it is always important to have your me time and the World Cup One month moment is the time to get focused on you, so to prevent your  man from applying  the Vanishing Cream on you , here are some of my suggestions

HANG OUT WITH THE GIRLS
Relationships takes a lot of time and work, if you are not careful you tend to cut your friends out , unknowingly, so while your man is busy hugging the TV why don't you call the girls , get yourself looking super duper amazing and catch up with the girls, maybe just maybe if your man sees you leaving the house looking like a Amazon princess , or the increasing number of male likes on your Instagram or Facebook post of your selfie , he might just realize what his missing.

SELF PAMPER
Why don't you go out to a spa and get yourself a massage? Heavens! i can do with some of that! Get a facial, get a manicure , get a pedicure, steam your self in a Sauna , to get that skin pores to open, prune your eyebrows, and get that stress out with a Massage ..mmm SHEKETE!!! ..i tend to prefer men , you know strong arms doing amazing things to my 'birthday suit', but i am mischievous by nature , what do i know, after that go to a cozy room in your white fluffy robe and indulge in some green tea and delicious fruits..seems like a short time, believe me this can take a whole day...by the time you get home , with skin glowing, and smelling of delicious exotic oils, God bless him...... make he no leave that TV.

GET YOUR HOUSE ANOTHER TV
I am not an outing person by nature , I know SHOCKING !!!! but if you are like me? with only one TV in your home? during the World cup? you are going to have some issues , most homes these days have more that one TV, some have more than three  , if your Oga , is already treating the remote , like 'My Precious' from the Lord of the Rings and is already announcing that the TV is his for the next one month, you better start alerting him that you need a another TV. if you think this suggestion is weird wait for the next match and find out that your favorite show is on at the same time ,i promise you THE HUMAN RIGHTS SPIRIT WITHIN YOU WILL EXPLODE .

YOU CANT BEAT THEM? JOIN THEM
This is not a surrender or step down in feminism, there is nothing wrong with trying to enjoy what your man enjoys , and bellllieeeveee me,  FOOTBALL AIN'T THE WORST OF THEM. I never liked football, my brothers got me into it and now i am a fan, and in some way we are closer and it makes me the cool elder sister. I also got more complements, friend requests and dates from men when they found out i love football, ain't nothing wrong in TRYING! you might just love it at the end and he may just appreciate you much more .

The World Cup is a  Big deal to the World ,no joke... people do not mess with the world cup, so don't be the only miserable person during an event that comes once every 4 years. just give your Oga this moment and simply create yours. if you feel there are more ways to create ME-TIME during the world cup , feel free to comment below , and if you feel my suggestions are helpful and you plan to implement them soonest, you have 6 hours to the next match which is Brazil Vs Chile at 5 pm ...LOL

HAVE A SUPER DUPER WEEKEND! MUUUUAHHHH

LIFE AS SHE SEES IT: EVERYDAY by Adesuwa

Maria was coming. Something to look forward to...if money won't come, a good woman was enough to make you forget... but only for a while.
He had taken some time to stroll around town, before coming home. He had bought #100 credit, and he called Maria. Maria liked books. He had seen a mallam selling used books, so he made a good bargain and got two novels for Maria.
Maria finally arrived, they hugged and kissed, they were happy to see each other.

"So how did the interview go?" She wanted to know.

 "It never held" He said.

She sighed deeply, "it would be fine..ok?", he shrugged, looking for a worthy distraction.

"Oh yea, I got you these books" he smiled wide showing off his fine teeth.

She took them "thank you", they looked old,

'Jaded and 'Firesong', both dated back to the year 2000. She sighed, her mind wandered to yesterday, Lolade's boyfriend had taken them to the cinema, and they came back laden with enough goodies. Kay's boyfriend practically catered for her welfare and family... they would be married soon. She would get 'Jaded' and 'Firesong' to sleep tonight.

He studied her as she looked at the books, lost in thought. He should let her go... she was clearly unsatisfied.

BOOM!!!!!

The ground under them shook. They reached for each other.

"Another bomb??" She squealed... they clung to each other.

Soon, they heard shouts and wails.

"Wait here..am coming", he said softly.

He ran out to get first-hand gist.

"These people don come again o!" A boy ran shouting.

He shouted back "where them bomb?".

"Na wetin I dey go find out"
 the boy screamed.

He ran after the boy and then slowed down... he stopped, his shoulders dro0ped. He was not ready to count corpses...how many would he count. He turned around and jogged home.
Maria was still there, curled up and shaking on the bed.

"Another bomb" she stated the obvious.

"Yes" he reached to the side of the bed. He had #1000 left.

"Here is #200... you need to go home now." He handed it to her.

She didn't know what shocked her more. The bomb or the 200 naira. For Pete's sakes she spent #500 coming down here alone!!!
She took it and muttered a goodbye and left.
He sighed and flopped on his bed. He stared at the #800 left. He thought hard. Soon his head began to ache. He had to go searching for a job, there was no food in the house, he didn't even have credit to reach out to people, or BIS to search for jobs on-line.
He laid down and soon drifted away. Three hours later he woke up... it was dark... He reached over to switch on the light. PHCN was at it again.

"Mtchew"
 he hissed.

He felt around for his rechargeable lamp... it lit dimly.

He switched on the radio, "the president has condemned the bombing of..."

He didn't wait to hear "and condemnation is where it stops.." He growled and flung the radio against the wall...

The shattering sound of the radio and its pieces falling to hard ground permeated the house. Another radio would have to be bought, he mentally added it to his growing list of things he lacked..
He stared at the shattered radio..that's how he felt.... SHATTERED

Hi guys!

I am super excited to be officially writing my intro for this blog. It has definitely been a long time coming for me. I suddenly realised I was busy waiting for everything to be perfect before it takes off while I had things I wanted to write about piling up in my head but who the heck needs perfection??? (Like my good friend Adesuwa pointed out to me). So I have decided to start even though I have no idea what blogging is all about and everything I want on and for the blog isn’t ready yet. What is most important is that I have a passion to do this –share my thoughts and experiences with you and learn from you guys too! That counts for something right?

The idea behind the name of this blog (besides the red velvet cake which is incredibly awesome) is that I wanted something sultry, hot ,feminine, sexy –in a good way –and also appealing to both sexes. I was speaking to a friend (ime) about my ideas and she suddenly came up with this name and I love it! So ‘Redvelvet’ is a platform for me and the other contributors to talk to people, especially ladies straight from our hearts about everyday things. This blog will not be stereotyped.  It will cover issues ranging from relationships to fashion to politics to sex to spirituality etc. Diverse right? Well the idea is not to limit ourselves on what can and should be discussed on this platform. So I am looking at an opportunity where we can share whatever bothers us ladies generally and still be able to talk about issues happening in the country around us and globally too.

It is quite obvious that the focus of the blog is on ladies and the issues affecting us however, it will not be restricted to us alone because it will not be possible to take men out of the equation. Contrary to the general belief, feminists (like me) respect men a great deal and believe that they are very important (God wasn’t stupid when he made the man head). It is my belief that a woman cannot take the place of a man and vice versa. I only have a problem when a woman is disregarded and disrespected simply because she is a woman! (Topic for another day! lol).

My co-contributors are some gorgeous, amazing, beautiful ladies who are super intelligent and talented- Adesuwa, Adanma, Faith, Mikkie and Ngozi.  These wonderful ladies and I will pour out our hearts to you through our various pieces over time and we would appreciate your valuable feedbacks too. Let me add that anyone is free to send any write-ups, articles, or areas that you feel should be covered in this blog. Like I said nothing is written in stone and the blog isn’t perfect therefore we are very flexible.

I look forward to having so much fun doing this and I hope y’all will enjoy the ride with me.
Talk to you very soon!
Cheers!

Love,
